Cartwright Community Independent School (CCIS)
In 1991, the school board of the time had planned to cut Grades 10, 11, and 12 from Cartwright School and have these students sent to a neighboring town for high school because of supposed financial reasons. The community of Cartwright was not willing to allow this to happen and so after many community meetings and many other options tried, it was decided to form the (private) Cartwright Community Independent School Inc. (CCIS).
CCIS has continued to operate since this time and is funded partially by government funding, but also by private fundraising and donations from parents, community, former students and their famililies.
